Your telegram No. 56 (of the 15th January:

violation of Hong Kong territorial waters by

Japanese destroyer).

I presume that you have by now received the

copy sent to you direct of the secret despatch

from the Governor of Hong Kong to the Colonial

office dated the 17th December, containing

reports and statements,

You should inform the Japanese Government

that His Majesty's Government have taken note

that the Japanese Government have dealt

appropriately with those responsible for the

unwarrantable proceedings of the Japanese

destroyer in Hong Kong territorial waters and

have sent instructions providing against the

recurrence of such an incident. It appears

from the reports enclosed in the Hong Kong

despatch referred to above that the customs

cruiser sailed out of Hong Kong territorial

waters
